  23. UMC stands for United Microelectronics based in Taiwan.  As far as I know
  24. they are only accessible via long-distance calls.  Using the altavista
  25. search engine I've seen no sign of a web page or an email address for them. 
  26. I don't recall the international phone number.  You might gain some limited
  27. information about the purpose of a certain UMC chip(whether it is a UART,
  28. SRAM, etcc) if you go to the "Chip identification" page.  Not sure of the
  29. URL, but I found it at altavista by doing a search on "chip identification"
  30. under advanced query.
